FRIDAY 11 JANUARY - CHRIS JAMES
FRIDAY 8 FEBRUARY - TONY CROOKS
Tony Crooks returned to our club tonight for another great night of country music which is always guaranteed with Tony. With a great mix of old, new and lesser known tunes he kept the dancers happy and the floor full all night. Pauline from Blue Roses kept the floor busy at the start of the start of the night and in the intervals and from the reports we received, everyone enjoyed the night.
Thank you Tony, you are welcome back at any time.
FRIDAY 8 MARCH - YOUNG COUNTRY
(Martin Boyd & Henry Birkett)
Well! What can we say about this night!! We had 2 fantastic young artists to entertain us which they did in abundance! We had Martin Boyd (24) and Henry Birkett (18) who both travelled almost the length of the country to play for us!
Henry and Martin had liaised before the event to ensure they didn't play the same songs so there wasn't one song which was duplicated during the whole 4 hours of music!
We started early at 7.15pm with an hour long set from Henry. He is a very accomplished guitar player with a lovely voice and he played a fantastic selection of country music. Some old, some new and some of his own penned songs! After Henry's first set we ran half the raffle to give time for Martin to prepare for his first set.
Many of us had seen Martin before at Blue Roses so we knew we were in for another good hour of country music. Again Martin chose a great selection of songs, old and new and gave a fantastic polished performance.
In the second interval we did the door entry and Lucky Horseshoe draws and announced the What's On's whilst Henry prepared for his brilliant second hour with an encore to follow. After which we finished the raffle draw and Martin came in for his last set. Following Martin's encore we invited them both on stage together to sing "The Cowboy Rides Away". This proved so successful that the dancers and listeners insisted on another encore and "5 0'clock somewhere" was our final number of the night.
Wow! They had a standing ovation! Everyone stood to applaud their performances! What a night, what lovely lads with brilliant voices, great guitar playing and their personalities won the hearts of everyone. They were happy to chat to anyone who wanted to converse with them and they were a delight to have in the club.
We were inundated with compliments for the evening which didn't end until after 11.30. Everyone without exception had a wonderful evening and we hope to do it again in the not too distant future.
We gave Blue Roses the night off from providing our interval music (but they still enjoyed the night !) but we must give thanks to April who stepped in to run our Lucky Horseshoe, freeing Paul up to organise the lads' set-up and seating arrangements in the hall. Thanks also must go to Sue for allowing us to use the hall for an extended period and for providing hot food for those who wanted it and finally Becky and her friend who served us all with drinks all night.
This was a night to remember for a long time to come. Thank you Martin and Henry and thank you to Sylvia from Sylvan Entertainments who suggested the idea at her Country Music Taster last March when we first saw them both on stage.
FRIDAY 12 APRIL - CHRIS HARRIS
Another fabulous night of country music and entertainment led by Chris Harris. When you book Chris you know you are going to have a great night of dancing and listening to a consistent, professional artist. He has a great voice, is a brilliant guitar player and a lovely personality. Thank you Chris for a great night, to Pauline from Blue Roses for providing the interval music for listeners and dancers and to Sue and Mike for keeping us refreshed.
FRIDAY 10 MAY - JOHN DOHERTY
Tonight we were entertained by John Doherty who travelled all the way down from Nottingham to play for us for the first time at our club. Wow! what a great voice he has. HIs singing and guitar playing is effortless and he presents as such a relaxed, easy going entertainer. He played a great choice of country music for us all some of which was well known and others rarely heard which made a great mix of music. He kept the dance floor busy all night and everyone reported having a great night. Pauline from Blue Roses kept us all dancing in the intervals with requests and popular current dances being taught in the local clubs. Sue and Mike were again on duty to keep us fed and watered.
FRIDAY 14 JUNE - DARREN JONES
Darren Jones was our chosen artist tonight. He played a great mix of country music keeping the dance floor full all night. Pauline from Blue Roses kept it busy in the interval with old and new dances. We were kept fed and watered by Becky and Jodie and although hot food wasn't due to be available as Sue was away, Becky very kindly provided hot food and baps to keep our energy levels topped up.
We had a good night of dancing and hopefully can do it all again next month!
