Exe Ranch Country & Western Club opened in May 1996 by four friends after another club had to close.
Music on the first night was provided by West & Elliott and there was an attendance of 46 that night. Artists were initially sought locally but this had to be expanded to further afield and attendances gradually increased to around 100.
Unfortunately one of the partners passed away around 2003 and since then the club has been run by two of the remaining three, Joan & Barry with additional help from friends. Joan & Barry decided to retire from the club at the end of 2012 after looking after the club through good times and bad.
Paul and Helen Smith took the club on in January 2013 and the artist on the opening night will be local country duo Spur.
Paul and Helen found the country music and line dancing scene by accident. On the first night in their new home they decided to have dinner in their local pub and then to walk around the village. On passing the village hall they heard music and on investigation discovered the local line dancing class. They were encouraged to stay and take part and were hooked.
Over the next couple of years they discovered social dances and other classes and it has now become a large part of their lives making lots of friends and enjoying many group holidays.
They hope Exe Ranch will remain a popular country music and dance club for all to enjoy.
